We returned to Lyon on Thursday to wander this food capital. We again travelled by train from Vienne and caught the tram from Perrache to Part-Dieu and sought out Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse. Lyon's covered markets are named after Paul Bocuse, this legendary figure on both the French and international cooking scene. They consist of three wide main alleys leading to numerous shops. Many of them are star-rated by the Michelin guide and it is where locals and restaurateurs come to buy the best quality foods available from some 59 specialist shops - meats, poultry, seafood, bread, pastries, cheeses, sweets, wines, etc, and to also eat at an array of specialist restaurants. We started off by moving up the alleys in an organised manner, but were soon halted in our tracks by a small crowd around a shell fish shop eating prawns, oysters and others and drinking white wine. We had to join in and ordered a selection of oysters from four regions of France and a glass of white wine each. An hour later we had lunch of Quenelles de Lyonnaise at one of the restaurants.
